Excursion Itinerary

Calling all Sassenachs! Step ashore and straight into the world of Outlander on this unforgettable small-group shore excursion from Edinburgh’s cruise ports — including South Queensferry, Newhaven, Leith, and Rosyth. Designed to fit your ship’s schedule, this semi-private tour follows in the footsteps of Claire and Jamie through some of Scotland’s most iconic filming locations.

Our Outlander adventure begins in the beautifully preserved village of Culross, which transformed into Cranesmuir for the series. Stroll along its cobbled lanes, passing the Mercat Cross where key scenes unfolded. You’ll feel transported back to the 17th century. (Entrance to Culross Palace is optional and not included.)

Next, explore Doune Castle, the instantly recognisable setting for Castle Leoch — home of Clan MacKenzie. Entry is included, and fans will love the Outlander-themed audio guide narrated by Sam Heughan himself. As you wander its halls and courtyards, history and storytelling merge in the most atmospheric way.

After a break for lunch, we visit the striking Blackness Castle, known as the “Ship That Never Sailed.” Used as Fort William in Outlander, this fortress is one of the most dramatic coastal strongholds in Scotland and offers superb views across the Firth of Forth.

Our final stop is Midhope Castle, better known as Lallybroch — Jamie Fraser’s family home and a true pilgrimage site for fans. Please note that site access is dependent on estate availability and may occasionally be restricted, but we always do our best to include this special stop when open.

With expert local commentary, small-group comfort, and guaranteed return to your ship, this Outlander shore excursion from Edinburgh promises a day filled with romance, history, and cinematic magic.

  • For any shore excursion in Scotland, preparation is key to enjoying your adventure comfortably. Our weather is famously changeable, so checking the forecast and dressing in layers is essential:

    • Light base layer

    • Sweater or fleece

    • Waterproof jacket

Comfortable shoes are also a must, as many destinations feature cobbled streets, rugged trails, or castle grounds that require footwear capable of handling different types of uneven surface.

While many places accept cards, having a bit of cash on hand can be helpful.

A small backpack is useful for carrying essentials like snacks, extra clothing, and any souvenirs you may pick up along the way.

Finally, don’t forget to bring a camera or smartphone to capture all those sights on your excursion with us!
