Excursion Itinerary
Discover the breathtaking scenery of Scotland’s west coast on a private shore excursion from Greenock (Glasgow), designed especially for cruise passengers looking to explore the West Highlands at their own pace. With your own private vehicle and experienced driver-guide, enjoy a wonderful combination of picturesque villages, dramatic mountain scenery and Scottish history. Your day includes convenient pick-up and return at Greenock Cruise Terminal, along with our Shore Excursion Guarantee for added peace of mind.
Our journey begins as we travel from Greenock into the beautiful Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, stopping in the charming conservation village of Luss on Loch Lomond. Take time to wander through its pretty streets lined with traditional stone cottages, enjoy the peaceful waterfront and capture photographs of the surrounding hills and loch.
From here, we'll continue deeper into the West Highlands, travelling through some of Scotland's most spectacular landscapes towards The Rest and Be Thankful viewpoint. This historic mountain pass takes its name from the relief felt by travellers and soldiers after completing the steep climb through Glen Croe. Today, it's a wonderful place to stop, admire the dramatic Highland scenery and take some memorable photographs.
Our next destination is Inveraray, a picturesque town on the shores of Loch Fyne and the traditional seat of the Dukes of Argyll. Here, you'll have time to enjoy lunch, explore the town's attractive streets, browse the independent shops and discover some of its fascinating history.
One of Inveraray's best-known attractions is Inveraray Castle, the ancestral home of the Dukes of Argyll. If the castle is open during your visit, you may choose to explore its impressive interiors and beautiful grounds, with admission payable separately. *Please note that Inveraray Castle operates seasonally and is normally closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Alternatively, you might prefer to visit Inveraray Jail, a fascinating former courthouse and prison where you can discover what life was like for prisoners in the 19th century. Admission is not included, allowing you to decide how you'd prefer to spend your time in Inveraray.
To round off our day, we'll enjoy a scenic ferry crossing from Hunters Quay to Gourock, taking in views across the Firth of Clyde as we make our way back towards Greenock. The ferry crossing is included in your excursion price, and your driver-guide will return you directly to Greenock Cruise Terminal in plenty of time for your ship's departure.
As this is a private excursion, there's a little more flexibility built into your day. If you'd particularly like to spend more time exploring Inveraray, visit a specific attraction or enjoy a longer stop at one of our scenic viewpoints, your driver-guide can adjust the itinerary where possible. Any changes will always be subject to attraction opening times, ferry schedules, traffic conditions and, most importantly, ensuring you are back at your ship in plenty of time.

For any shore excursion in Scotland, preparation is key to enjoying your adventure comfortably. Our weather is famously changeable, so checking the forecast and dressing in layers is essential:
Light base layer
Sweater or fleece
Waterproof jacket
Comfortable shoes are also a must, as many destinations feature cobbled streets, rugged trails, or castle grounds that require footwear capable of handling different types of uneven surface.
While many places accept cards, having a bit of cash on hand can be helpful.
A small backpack is useful for carrying essentials like snacks, extra clothing, and any souvenirs you may pick up along the way.
Finally, don’t forget to bring a camera or smartphone to capture all those sights on your excursion with us!
