Excursion Itinerary
Discover the history, legends and beautiful landscapes of the Scottish Highlands on a private shore excursion from Invergordon Cruise Port, designed especially for cruise passengers looking to make the most of their day ashore. With your own private vehicle and experienced driver-guide, you'll explore some of the Highlands' most fascinating historic landmarks at a comfortable pace. Your excursion includes convenient port pick-up and return, admission to Cawdor Castle & Gardens, and our trusted Shore Excursion Guarantee for added peace of mind.
Our journey begins at Clava Cairns, a remarkable Bronze Age burial site dating back approximately 4,000 years. Surrounded by peaceful Highland countryside, this atmospheric collection of ancient burial chambers and standing stones offers a fascinating glimpse into Scotland's prehistoric past.
Next, we'll visit Culloden Battlefield, the site of the final battle of the 1745 Jacobite Rising. Walk across the historic moorland, discover the clan memorial stones and learn about the events of 16 April 1746 that changed the course of Scottish history. You may also choose to visit the Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, where interactive exhibitions bring the story of the battle to life. Admission to the visitor centre is optional and payable separately.
Our journey continues to Cawdor Castle & Gardens, one of the Highlands' most enchanting historic castles. Associated with Shakespeare's Macbeth and closely connected to the heritage of Clan Campbell, the castle is renowned for its beautifully furnished rooms, historic collections and magnificent gardens. With castle admission included in your private excursion price, you'll have time to explore the interiors and wander through the grounds. There's also an opportunity to enjoy lunch at the castle café before continuing our Highland adventure.
Our final stop takes us to Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands, where you'll enjoy free time to explore at your own pace. Browse the independent shops of the Victorian Market, take a leisurely walk along the River Ness or simply soak up the atmosphere of this historic Highland city.
At the end of your excursion, your private driver-guide will return you directly to Invergordon Cruise Port, bringing your day exploring Scotland's fascinating history, castles and Highland scenery to a relaxed conclusion.
As this is a private excursion, there's a little more flexibility built into your day. If there's somewhere you'd particularly like to spend more time, or a stop you're less interested in, your driver-guide can adjust the pace where possible. Any changes will always be subject to attraction opening times, traffic conditions and, most importantly, ensuring you are back at your ship in plenty of time.

For any shore excursion in Scotland, preparation is key to enjoying your adventure comfortably. Our weather is famously changeable, so checking the forecast and dressing in layers is essential:
Light base layer
Sweater or fleece
Waterproof jacket
Comfortable shoes are also a must, as many destinations feature cobbled streets, rugged trails, or castle grounds that require footwear capable of handling different types of uneven surface.
While many places accept cards, having a bit of cash on hand can be helpful.
A small backpack is useful for carrying essentials like snacks, extra clothing, and any souvenirs you may pick up along the way.
Finally, don’t forget to bring a camera or smartphone to capture all those sights on your excursion with us!
