Excursion Itinerary
When your cruise ship docks in Greenock, one of Scotland’s most memorable experiences is just a short drive away. This small-group shore excursion takes you to a working Scottish hill farm for an authentic Highland cow farm experience, where you can meet the country’s most famous animal up close.
Set in the rolling countryside just outside the Greenock cruise port, this relaxed farm visit offers a genuine glimpse into rural Scottish life. You will spend time on a real family-run farm learning about life in the countryside while meeting Highland cows up close.
Travelling in a small group from Greenock Cruise Terminal, you will enjoy comfortable transport to the farm before joining a specially designed all-weather trailer tour through the surrounding fields and hills. The farm experience is reserved exclusively for your Shore Excursion Scotland group, allowing you to enjoy the visit at a relaxed pace while asking questions, taking photographs, and learning about life on a working Scottish hill farm. The purpose-built trailer allows guests to explore the farm in comfort while enjoying sweeping views across the surrounding landscape.
During guided farm experience, your host will introduce you to the farm’s Highland cattle, sheep, and other animals while explaining what everyday life is like on a working Scottish hill farm. You will hear how farmers care for their animals throughout the seasons and how this rugged landscape shapes rural life in Scotland. The Highland cows themselves are naturally curious animals and often wander right up to the trailer to investigate their visitors, creating fantastic opportunities for photographs and memorable close-up encounters while guests remain comfortably seated.
There is plenty of time throughout the tour to ask questions about the animals, farming life, and the surrounding countryside, making the experience both informative and relaxed. As the farm sits on open hillside, the views across the landscape are a highlight of the visit, with clear days offering impressive vistas towards Ben Lomond, the Highlands, and across the Clyde Valley towards Glasgow.
Although the farm is exposed to the Scottish weather, the trailer is fully weather protected so guests remain comfortable even if conditions change. The boarding area is on hard standing rather than muddy fields, so visitors will not need to worry about walking through mud during the experience. Bringing an extra layer is always a good idea, as hill farms can be cooler and breezier than the coast.
